The aerial view of an extraordinary volcanic landscape. Declared a Protected Landscape in 1994, La Geria is a perfect example of how human activity can coexist in harmony with a unique natural environment. The La Geria-Lanzarote rug attempts to reproduce the texture of volcanic earth through its hand-tufted technique, which creates physical depth and offers great freedom of design and finish.

Lanzarote is a Spanish island, the easternmost of the Canary Islands off the north coast of Africa. Lanzarote is the fourth-largest of the islands in the archipelago and was declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO. The landscape depicted of in the rug are based on the vineyards of La Gera, Lanzarote wine region, a protected area. Single vines are planted in pits 13′-16′ wide and 6.5′- 10′ deep, with small stone walls around each pit. This agricultural technique is designed to harvest rainfall and overnight dew and to protect the plants from the winds.

Jos Antonio Ganda-Blasco Canales was born in Ontinyent, Valencia. After studying law at the Valencia University, he joined the family business Ganda Blasco. Jos A. is not only president of the company but also the art director. He designed a large part of the furniture and textile collections that are being commercialized today. Urban furniture collections such as ‘Valencia’ (benches and wastepaper baskets), the outdoor furniture line ‘356’, which are both signed together with Pablo Girons, the ‘Saler’ collection or accessories such as the daybed, torches, lamps, lanterns and candlesticks; carpets like Mota 2, Crculos, Wall, Championes, the duvet cover Piedras; all of them being products that can easily be identified with Ganda Blasco lifestyle.
